罗茨泵是一种无内压缩的真空泵，通常压缩比很低，故高、中真空此泵不可以单独抽气，需配前级泵构成机组联合使用。靠泵腔内一对“8”字形转子同步、反向旋转的推压作用来移动气体而实现抽气的真空泵。
